Exploring Britain through politics
Each summer, the Department of Political Science leads a trip across the Atlantic to London with a crew of students to learn about British Politics and Policy. For one month, the group explores London while learning about the U.K.’s political system, financial institutions, and legal system. From trying local cuisine to touring iconic buildings and museums, venturing to Cambridge, and taking in the culture, students get to experience British daily life while completing six credit hours of special topics.
Spain: Safety and Ethics in Engineering
Engineering students trade traditional classrooms for the vibrant cities of Madrid, Toledo, and Valencia as part of the course Safety and Ethics in Engineering - A Global View. Through a European lens, students explore how to create safe and healthy workplaces by applying basic principles of accident prevention and safety engineering through the analysis and design of safety and accident control procedures in various industries.
Italy: Biomedical Engineering
The Department of Biomedical Engineering offers students the opportunity to study abroad in Florence, Italy, where they can enroll in a variety of courses, including Biomaterials, Fundamentals of Biomechanics, and Independent Study. Students explore Italian culture and technology with visits to the Piaggio, Lamborghini, and Ducati factories, as well as to surrounding cities and local museums.
Salzburg opera program turns 40
The Frost School of Music's annual summer program for classical vocalists at Austria’s famed music festival has immersed students in a transformative and inspiring musical experience for four decades. During the monthlong 2025 program, students participated in music and language masterclasses, workshops, performances, concerts, and more.

Tour ‘opens the world’ for music students
This spring, the Frost Chorale toured Italy, performing to standing ovations in iconic historic and sacred venues in what one student called “the trip of a lifetime.” Along with cultural outreach, the students experienced life on the road in a professional choir. As part of the curriculum, the Choral Studies program organizes a domestic tour every other year and an international trip every four years.
No place for waste
Students in the Sustainable Marketing in Japan summer study abroad program gained firsthand insight into how the country has become a global leader in sustainability. The three-week program took students on visits, workshops, and fieldwork in Kyoto and Tokyo to examine leading sustainable fashion brands, where they acquired the tools to innovate and disrupt unsustainable marketing practices.
A week of global learning in Buenos Aires
Graduate students from Miami Herbert recently immersed themselves in Argentine culture during their Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education trip. From engaging with local business leaders to reconnecting with fellow Canes, the weeklong experience offered rich insights and meaningful connections.

Designing cities through a global lens
The School of Architecture’s summer master’s course Great Cities Design Studio engages architecture students in site-specific urban analysis through travel-based learning in cities around the world. This summer, the students traveled to Mexico City, where—through curated site visits, globally focused lectures, and hands-on techniques like sketching, mapping, and collage—they explored how social, cultural, and political forces shape the built environment.
The Cannes Lions Experience
As part of an immersive 12-day course, students attended the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity in Cannes, France, engaging in exclusive seminars, workshops, masterclasses, awards ceremonies, galas, and networking events with top agencies and industry leaders. In addition, the experience explored the French Riviera with excursions to the nearby cities of Nice and Antibes.

Communication and cultural immersion in Barcelona
A first-of-its-kind course, Global Communication and Social Media in Barcelona introduced students from diverse academic backgrounds to news, advertising, social and other media, and how these are generated and shared in a different country. While in Spain, they visited 10 media companies—ranging from advertising and print to digital agencies, film, and radio. The course also included cultural experiences, offering students a deeper understanding of Spanish traditions.
Tackling global challenges
Students from the School of Education and Human Development’s new Data Analytics and Intelligence for Social Impact (DAISI) major traveled to Brescia, Italy, where over the course of a month—and in collaboration with local companies, nonprofits, and educational entities arranged by ST Silicy—they applied their data analytics skills, along with essential professional competencies such as communication and teamwork, to create a positive social impact. The experience enabled them to tackle complex problems while navigating different cultural contexts.
