First-year and new transfer students and their families are making their way to the University of Miami this week for ’Cane Kickoff 2024, the University’s new student orientation.
Hosted by the Department of Orientation and Commuter Student Involvement with participation from partners across the University, the program takes place from Monday, Aug. 12, through Sunday, Aug. 18, and will support more than 2,800 incoming students as they transition into life at the U. Activities begin at the Lakeside Village Expo Center, where students check in and receive their ’Cane Card, the University identification card. From there, they move into their new home away from home with Cruise Ship Move-In specialists assisting first-year students move their belongings into Centennial Village and Mahoney–Pearson Residential College.
The week features more than 185 events and informative on-campus sessions designed to help students develop a sense of belonging, learn about the various resources available, and begin their University journey. Optional excursions over the weekend will also help students explore Miami and begin to feel at home.
