An abundance of fresh faces are making their way to the University of Miami this week as students and their families attend the new student orientation, also known as ’Cane Kickoff.
Hosted by the Department of Orientation and Commuter Student Involvement with participation from partners across the campus, the program takes place from Monday, Aug. 14, through Sunday, Aug. 20, and will support 2,700 students as they transition into the U.
Activities begin at the Lakeside Village, which serves as the centralized location for new students to check in and receive their ’Cane Card, or university identification card. From there, they proceed to their new home away from home.
Making this process easier for students, Housing and Residential Life continues its partnership with University and Student Services to use Cruise Ship Move-In—a service that brings residential students’ belongings from their cars directly to their rooms.
The week features a jam-packed lineup of events including informative sessions that will help students develop a sense of belonging and learn more about the various campus resources available to help them succeed.
