Eduardo Jardim
Profiles of Remarkable Individuals Who Make the U Great
“It’s heavy, sweaty, dirty but I like it.”
Group Title (Optional)
Eduardo Jardim joined the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science nearly five years ago when he came from Brazil. At a very young age, he found his passion for building and rebuilding toys and cars that he had taken apart. His attention to detail was exceptional, and he became the family’s go-to person for everything that needed repair.
At the Rosenstiel School, Jardim oversees the Ocean Tech Lab. As marine technical specialist, he is responsible for creating and deploying the mooring lines used by the school's researchers. These essential lines play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s scientific endeavors at sea, aiding the researchers in the precise measurement of ocean conditions.
“As an ocean scientist I rely on Eduardo to design, build, and deploy networks of moored instruments capable of reliably measuring the ocean for years at a time. The ocean is wild, and we risk that instruments and moorings may flood, implode, foul, or come loose. Eduardo’s detailed planning and shop skills, as well as his resourcefulness and resilience while at sea are essential to the success of my research programs!” said Lisa Beal, professor in the Department of Ocean Sciences at the Rosenstiel School.
